What should I do with my Coin Collection?

In the past year, we have seen a large number of coin collections come through our door. We also get several calls a week from clients needing coin appraisals. For many families, their parents or grandparents had coin collections of varying sizes and the heirs are left wondering what to do with them. And for others, they are downsizing or moving and don’t want to carry heavy coins around or pay to store them somewhere.

The process can be daunting for people who are not sure who to trust and want to get the most value out of their collection.

We are fortunate here at American Precious Metals, to have an experienced team of coin appraisers with over 60 years of combined experience. We have been providing appraisals and buying collections for more than 30 years. Some dealers will quickly sort through a collection and make an offer based upon their best estimate. We have a different approach. We spend time with our clients, going through each coin at a time and explaining what you have and how the value of each item is determined. Depending on the size of the collection, it can take some time, but people have told us time and time again how much more comfortable they feel getting detailed information on individual items in their collection.

We recommend that clients call us and schedule an appointment time for the appraisal or sale of their collection. We do charge a fee for clients who desire a written appraisal of their collection but do not want to sell. If we end up buying the collection, the fee is waived.
